Helen Ougham is a scientist with a deep interest in biology, computing and also words and languages. She lives and works in Wales and, as an adult learner originally from England, has become a fluent speaker of the Welsh language and a strong supporter of Welsh culture. |
Helen's husband Sid, despite being born and bred in Wales, has only a rudimentary grasp of the language but is fortunate in being able to subcontract household linguistic duties to his more articulate partner. |
| Helen has travelled widely in the UK, Europe, Asia and North America in connection with her work and has participated extensively in international science collaborations. | |
| She is an avid solver of crossword puzzles, blogs on and tests crosswords as part of a community of 'sloggers and betters' and has twice been Times Crossword Champion (1995 and 2006). | |
