When I
started on this music lark, Charlie Parker was still
alive. In school I was irreversibly ejected from
music class on the first day and apart from a very few
pretty unproductive encounters with teachers since then,
I'm as close to 100% self-taught as you can get.
So who am I to give music advice to anyone? Well,
if I can understand something, anyone can. If a
student is suffering, I can empathise - I've been there.
Provided you don't allow me to influence your
piano
fingering (one of my "friends" tells everyone my hands
are on upside-down) or your embouchure (I'm a biter), I
could help if you want a plain and simple introduction
to harmony or improvisation. Because if it isn't
plain and simple, I don't get it.
The buttons will take you to pages where I discuss the
basics, guide you through 20 Steps to Jazz Keyboard
Harmony, look at aspects of improvisation, give some
opinions about creativity and performance and point you
at further useful material.
